B.A.R.K.S. was the first dog-reading program in the N. C. Wake County libraries & Durham schools.
B.A.R.K.S. is a rewards based literacy program that uses specially trained dogs & other pets and their owner/handlers to make reading fun and to:
1.Help children & adults develop a life-long love for reading 2.Build self-esteem, confidence, social & emotional development 3.Inspire success academically and in life
4.Over-come learning & inter-personal communication problems 5.Elevate standing among peers and handle peer pressure 6.Teach pet safety and the humane & ethical treatment of pets and animals
B.A.R.K.S. is …
Designed to be a true literacy program …not just a fun-time animal activity. However, we will provide the B.A.R.K.S. program as a special fun library or community activity to draw children & patrons to your business.
